My mother went in for chest pain. She was taken to a room after triage, and they drew blood and put a blood pressure cuff on her arm. However, the nurse failed to connect the cuff to the machine. When the machine tried to pump the cuff up it gave an error message and started to beep. We called the nurse’s station and we were told they would let someone know. Fifteen minutes passed and a nurse never showed up!! We waited 15 more minutes and still no nurse. i walked to the nurses station and was asked if i needed help. I said, “30 minutes ago”!! A nurse followed me to the room and connected the cuff to the machine... I would have thought that keeping a track of blood pressure would have been important on a patient that has chest pain!!!!! but what do I know?
We had been in the room for about 2.5 hours. No updates....NOTHING!!! I walked to the nurses station and asked for an update. Our nurse, Nick, the bearded man, came in the room and said they drew blood when we arrived. The lab said it looked fine...no problems, but did anyone bother to tell us that??? NO!!!!! He proceeded to tell us that they would draw blood again in 10 minutes send it to the lab and wait for results. the nurse drew blood, and Dr. came by after 30 minutes saying lab came back and looked good. He said he would get us out in a few minutes. Mind you this is the second time the Dr came in!! and basically didn’t say anything. By this time it’s after midnight. We waited for discharge papers... and waited... and waited... My mother pressed the button for a nurse. We got the standard reply!!! “We will send someone right in.” Of course, no one ever showed up!!!! Do you see a pattern here??? I walked to the nurses station again!! The doctor was sitting at the nurses station watch a nurse perform a rendention of a broadway play!!! I asked where we were at in getting our discharge papers? The Dr. replies, “they should be ready to leave.” Wow, that was the most informative thing he said the whole night!!! we waited another30 minutes before another nurse finally came in!! Apparently Nick was scheduled to perform in the broadway show and couldn’t get the discharge paperwork to us!!!!..
Let me tell you something. I have never seen a more poorly run ER. Unfortunately i didn’t get the Dr’s name. But Nurse Nick was not at all helpful. If you need an ER go to Providence or go to Temple. The Dr and nurses in the Hillcrest ER are to busy having a good time to take care of patients. Very very poor service!!!
